Sony VPL-FE40 beamer/projector 4000 ANSI lumens LCD

Basingstoke, UK - November 2006 -Sony today announced the introduction of new front projector, the VPL-FE40, designed for a variety of applications, including education and business use. With 4000 ANSI lumens brightness and XGA (1024 x 768 pixel) or SXGA+ (1400 x 1050 pixel) resolution respectively, these models are ideal for showcasing presentations, video and images in medium to large sized meeting rooms and auditoriums. The versatility of these two projectors makes them ideal for a number of digital signage installations.

The VPL-FE40 is extremely versatile and can be customised to virtually any application environment. Both models can be rear screen or ceiling mounted, filling screens, up to 600 inches (measured diagonally), with bright images at 4000 ANSI Lumens. By changing the standard zoom lens to one of the three optional bayonet lenses, Sony gives customers the flexibility to choose a lens-free version of the projectors so that they can easily tailor the projector for long and short distance front and rear projection. The 90 degree free tilt angle capability combined with Horizontal and Vertical Lens shift and advanced digital keystone correction ensures that detailed and geometrically correct images can be produced.

With 3LCD technology, which uses three separate LCD panels for red, green and blue, the VPL-FE40 incorporates a new 0.79" inorganic panel for greater reliability and brightness.

This Sony BrightEra branded High Temperature Polysilicon (HTPS) LCD panel represents the latest technology in precise liquid crystal alignment. It has increased reliability and is capable of outputting higher picture quality. In comparison to conventional LCD panels, the use of this new material greatly augments the panel's resistance to ultraviolet light, which is key to panel reliability.An increase to the aperture ratio from traditional panels enables the projectors to produce an incredibly bright image, while avoiding colour separation or the 'rainbow effect' of the final image that can affect some other projection technologies.

Both models will incorporate Sony's new network presentation capability using AirShot™ wireless technology. "These models mark the introduction of a next generation of AirShot technology. The VPL-FE40 allow the user to share a presentation wirelessly, with a network access point or directly from their LAN networked PC. It is suitable for data conferencing and other situations where security and convenience are paramount," added Meakin. The new models will also be compatible with Sony Ziris Light, enabling users to manage multiple Sony projectors over a network.
